There are a lot of people who believe Genghis' destruction of the Middle East and Asia is what allowed Europe to rise up and become the power it was. At the time it was FAR superior to the Asian and Middle Eastern powers.
Without Europe rising into what it was, England does become the power it was and who knows where the pilgrims come from. That would have had an insane impact on the U.S. and anything that drastically changes the U.S. is by definition a massive effect on the globe.
