Look, you may think it's a great movie and want to defend against every criticism, and that's fine. But as far as plot holes go, it's got a big one. I don't buy the 2/3 water thing either, but then there is the rain, dew, fog, and cups of water inconsistencies that just won't go away. At least the aliens could have had sense enough to use protective clothing. But, despite their advanced status as interplanetary travelers, they don't wear protective suits in an environment that is dangerous to them, instead, hiding inside the homes of the people who they are hiding from when a rainstorm comes? I'm not even trying to defend it to the death or anything. People are allowed to dislike it...that's fine. I just think that often times their reasons for hating it are pretty stupid...and I'm not coming up with any "silly" explanations, but rather coming with pretty easy and reasonable responses to the things you're bitching about.
