the model of tipping in the industry

Nobody's arguing this. I personally despise the tipping industry in the US. But it is what it is. I think if you can justify tipping for a sit-down dinner (which I assume you do), there is justification for a [smaller] tip for to-go orders because those use up a regularly tipped employee, they use up kitchen space and time which increases wait times for people who are dining in, and they use additional items that the restaurant fronts money for and can't reuse (boxes, containers, bags, etc.).

I'd be all for eliminating tips, but I find it funny that the people who are also for it are people who hate tipping. The "option" they have now would be completely removed and they'd be forced.

Most servers make at least 20% overall each shift. No matter what, I always averaged between 20%-22%.. even when people stiffed me. So the only way I'd remain employed at a restaurant if they did away with tipping was if they paid me what I already make. This means every item gets a 20% increase and if you're normally a 15% tipper, you're now being forced to 'tip' more.

I'm all for it! But surprised the non-tippers are for it too.
