What's interesting to me is that the Targs took up the faith of the 7 and even had a faith militant up until there was some rebellion I believe

Seems like a weird relationship given that the Targs were regular sibling frickers

They pop up and go away at different times throughout Westeros' history, but never stick around indefinitely. If I'm not mistaken, the only time it really rose up during the Targs dynasty was when several things happened under Aenys I who was the second Targ King of Westeros. He allowed the Ironborn to oust the faith of seven from the Iron Islands, his half-brother (and future successor) married a second wife while the first one still lived, and the king married his daughter to one of his sons. When he died, his half-brother took the throne and outlawed the Faith Militant, and commenced to brutally hunting them down. Finally his successor offered the surviving members amnesty in exchange for the disbandment of the Faith Militant. That's the last time they appeared until Cersei lets them reform.
