Computer not getting power

2 1/2 year old Dell laptop.
The part that accepts the power cord and transfers the power to all the various parts of the computer is bad. The cord is good. The battery is good. However, not a volt, amp, or watt of electricity is getting to where it needs to go.
Is it worth fixing or not? Something a philistine can fix? I have replaced the screen before.

So it won't turn on at all? No lights, no sounds, nothing?
This might be a longshot, but it's quick and easy and has a very small chance of doing something. Unplug it and remove the battery, then hold the power button for about 30 seconds. Put the battery back in, plug it up and try to turn it on.
If that fails, then it's probably not worth fixing. Usually the power circuitry is built onto the motherboard, so you would have to do a complete teardown and replace the entire thing. It'll probably cost more than it's worth to fix it.

If you really know that it is just a connector/receptacle issue, then it could be a simple repair. However, if it's really a issue with the motherboard then it's time for a new laptop. The decision largely depends on your laptop requirements. If all you need is a cheap laptop, then buy another cheap laptop. But if you need for instance a gaming laptop, then that makes the call more expensive and difficult.
