So you can linger around in hopes that we say "hey want some pizza?"

With the EPIC system we don't see the residents on the floor as much. But find out we are having some sort of pot luck that night with a bunch of food....for some reason we notice they linger around the nurse's station much longer.

The positive of that is being able to tell them what you want for your patient and they will usually order it.

"I have a kid that is really fussy and he keeps scratching himself and it's 1 am. Can you order him some benadryl since he's itching?"

Waaaaaay too arrogant to wait for an invite.

Honestly...she is wasting her time going this route. Many hospitals nationwide are only hiring new grads with their BSNs and/or they are making their current nurses with only an ADN or Diploma go back to school and get their BSN or they lose their job. She will seriously limit herself to the nursing jobs she can find if she goes the ADN route now. 10 years ago I would have said differently. But the current trend is BSN or go home.

This is just a wee bit of an exaggeration. Plenty of new hires in NOLA coming form the ADN route. I know several within the last year, of which some have already gotten raises.

My email from my hospital saying either I get my BSN before 2020 or I no longer have a job wasn't an exaggeration. It is a trend in nursing right now that is happening nationwide. Just because it may not be happening in NOLA doesn't mean it isn't happening elsewhere.

And that article is almost 3 years old...so this isn't a brand new trend

My wife is an ADN here in Baton Rouge and we haven't heard anything about going to only BSN. Probably because the majority of the RN's there are ADN, they would have a very hard time filling positions. Especially with Our Lady of the Lake College in town, most went to the two year program there. The only downside at her hospital with out a BSN is that you could never be in any manager position. She works part time (two nights a week) and brings in roughly 40K. She could make a lot more if she picked up extra shifts if she wanted.

Like you said, you haven't been in La for 10+ years. OP is here, get off your high horse.

Yes because stating what is going on NATIONWIDE in the nursing community is being on a "high horse"

Is it nationwide, or just where you are?

This is common with big hospitals in major medical communities. This is not the case in small hospitals and especially not the case in most clinics.

And yet it still doesn't pertain to where OP is. Admit you may not know every last detail of anything nursing related across the globe and just move on.

My hospital is not considered a massive hospital though.

We are not part of some huge hospital system(ex: like Banner out here).

I already said that I hadn't been in LA in 10 years so I wasn't aware of their exact requirements...just that is is a trend nationwide. You just wanted to turn yet another thread into a LNCHBOX argument.

So why don't you, who are not even a nurse, move on and find another thread to LNCHBOX.

Because both my parents are nurses here and my wife is in school to be a nurse. I have way more relevant info than you. Thanks though.
