I've always considered an athlete someone who takes part in an activity that requires physical talent/movement and actually competes at a high level.

High level obviously depends on the athlete's age, but if you suck then you aren't competing, because you aren't getting on the course/field/court.

Just my opinion though.

exactly. you can play baseball blindfolded, doesn't make less of a sport. In the famous words of Chris Rock... "You can drive a car with your feet, if you want to. Doesn't make it a good fricking idea, you dumb mother fricker"
