it absolutely should be. people are saying that you cant go from bonfire to bonfire without a weapon breaking. that has to be a bug

It's due to it being in 60fps. It was a problem on PC too but there are more enemies in Scholar, so your weapon breaks incredibly fast.

I'm trying to coach a friend through it and he can't make it to the cardinal tower bonfire and get the key to the blacksmith because ALL of his weapons break on the way there. It's a nightmare for new players.

I thought it was intended. I just run with a backup of the same weapon (I'm using a weapon that's farmable right now). Yeah they break fast, but they completely regen at bonfires if you don't break them. I haven't had much issue. You just have to be smart with your weapon usage. There's also a ring that decreases the rate your weapons lose durability although I think it's pretty tough to get.
