They have no stars on their team. The general public would be hard pressed to name a single Titans player. They need a face of the franchise and Mett is not it.

And it's decisions like this that sink franchises 5-10 years deeper into piss poor play. Might as well take advice from a homeless man then. Wait, the Browns owner already did that last draft. I seriously doubt Whisenhunt goes for that. Ultimately, it's he & his staff whose necks are under the guillotine here.

Secondly, pay attention to what is working & what is failing across the league in terms of drafting quarterbacks. The running, spread quarterbacks were a fad for a minute but look what was successful last draft. Teddy Bridgewater & Derek Carr had successful rookie seasons coming out of pro style college offenses. Even Blake Bortles had his share of moments. Now look back at the spread quarterbacks of the last few drafts & look at their struggles. Teams are beginning to realize that these spread guys aren't day one starters but 2-3 year projects.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reaffirmed his belief that FSU QB Jameis Winston and Oregon QB Marcus Mariota will go Nos. 1-2 later this month. "I could see any number of a half-dozen teams using [the No. 2] selection on the Oregon quarterback, including the Titans, who currently have it," La Canfora wrote. "But Tennessee doesn't seem married to that idea by any stretch and the Rams, Saints, Eagles, Browns or Chargers could end up in this spot to take the quarterback. Regardless, I hold firm to the belief that quarterbacks go 1-2, as they did in 2012. It's a two-quarterback draft and need prevails."

There are exceptions to this, but, basically, you're correct. Here's another point: the spread guys are prone to take a lot of hits....ergo, they get hurt a lot. Secondly, the spread guys have a hard time getting a feel for defensive changes at the line. They get the call from the sidelines and run it no matter what play it is. Here's a good read on spread QBs:

Yes, but they need to find a franchise QB both for on field performance and marketing purposes so they may be willing to gamble instead of waiting until next year. You simply cannot win without one and I do not think Mett fills that role. Mariota is probably a bad pick, but there aren't many home run prospects this year. Williams is not a Suh type propsect or even Dareus. Can you honestly say that Williams is that much better of a prospect than Cam Jordan was if at all? Williams wouldn't sniff the top 10 in that 2011 draft.

Wisenhunt is not the GM. That would be Ruston Webster. If the GM lets Whiz proceed with Met and Mariota (who ownership likes) shows progress, while Met bombs again, he is gone. You know how to buy an extra year as a GM, you draft a rookie QB that your owner likes who needs some time to develop. A rookie QB gives him an out for a poor season whereas if he passes on a rookie QB who does well, that's a fireable offense.
