I've driven from BR to NYC and also from BR to Seattle. The trip to PNW I was hauling arse the whole way so I didn't have time to really appreciate it.
I did however take the California Zephyr from Chicago to Oakland which was pretty awesome. It goes through Denver, SLC, Reno, and then through the Sierra Nevadas which was awesome. The train has an observation cart which has nice views.

My cousin did a huge U.S. road trip over one summer. He and a few buddies started in NOLA and headed to L.A, then turned north up to Seattle. After reaching Seattle, they drove east to Wisconsin and then back down to NOLA.
He told me it was a blast. They hit up 5 or 6 different MLB stadiums and did Vegas for a night or two among other stops along the way.
