Once diagnosed as a diabetic, one would rather be Type 2. At least your body can still make some insulin and is more insulin resistant. With a proper paleo type diet and exercise (which I'm sure he gets a lot of) Type 2 is a very manageable disease. In fact the paleo type diet and exercise that a Type 2 must do to get in control without insulin is more of the type of diet most non-diabetics should have. Have to eliminate the sugar intake and high glycemic carbohydrates. Unfortunately the grocery store is full of all this refined sugary food because the craze has been 'low fat' when actually the exact opposite is true.

Type 1 now is an entirely different animal if insulin dependent. Jay Cutler has Type 1 from what I understand. I've seen him testing his blood sugar on the sidelines during a Monday Night Football game. The announcers even commented on it. I have a lot of respect for Type 1 diabetics as it is a very challenging disease to have.
