My parents didn't spend near that much on my dress!

Eta:
Those people should google duct tape dresses.
They're way cheaper

IIRC, I spent about $70 renting a tux, $10 on a corsage and $50 on dinner. My date got a dress from the woman who did dresses for Miss Alabama and paid about $200, which was on the high side in the mid-90s.

My wife, the high school teacher, has informed me that doesn't happen anymore.

Got to have a limo, dinner has to cost at least $100, and the girls have to have dresses that start at $500.

Jr year pops gave me 75 bucks. That's dinner, pictures, 6er of Zima, Jolly Ranchers, whole 9 yards. We all get seated at Red Lobster by the mall, and she proceeds to order the menu. Or a good portion of it. Long story short we skipped the pictures. Good times.

We are helping, but our son works part time and has been saving all year for prom.
