We used to go out several times each year. From about age 12 until I was in my early 20s. The only time I ever got sick, dad and I grilled steaks and made a huge supper for the family, and we proceeded to overeat and drink too much. Up at 4 to get to the docks by 5 and out by 6. I had an uneasy feeling before we even got on the boat. I tried to sleep on a bench inside the boat, not down under but near the back, on the ride out. I was starting to feel better, but when the captain killed the engine and the boat heaved forward, I started to feel it all coming up. Me and this other guy were on opposite sides of a huge plastic trash can, and were taking turns hurling into it. I wiped my mouth off, cracked open a beer, and started fishing. Nothing cures it better than getting a fish on the line. I got pretty drunk while we were out there and never threw up again.

I used to take a half a dramamine the night before when I went to bed. I quit doing that later in my teenage years. Couldn't really tell if it made a difference since I never got sick but that one time anyways.
