re: Why does KRob even play

So 25 ABs doesn't matter, but 18 does? Okay. Just stop.

What is the reason Krob is a better hitter?

At least pap can get it out the infield. One triple doesn't make you a hitter. Pap has way more potential the KRob.

Pap only has 2 doubles... KRob, a double and a triple. They aren't that much different... other than BA

Jesus man, have you even watched Pap hit? He had a worse approach at the plate that Kramer. And that's saying something. And Kramer can run. And at the beginning of the season I was all aboard the Pap pain train. I was wrong. But I think he'll be a good defensive catcher for the Tigers come next year.

Either way. The more AB pap gets the more he will improve. KRob has a pretty low ceiling on potential. Plus, like someone has already stated, KRob has already had the chance to prove himself.

What are you arguing? Are you saying Pap should have subbed in for Fraley today?

I disagree that he's a below average OF. He made a bad mistake today but he isn't a liability out there.
I've thought the same for three seasons now. The mistake today isn't what I'm basing it on, though it isn't surprising in the least.

The more AB pap gets the more he will improve.

KRob has already had the chance to prove himself.
Like I said, everyone... every one... thought that if he hit .250 this year, he was a lock at 2B. It's the hitting of others and not his bat that is keeping him off the field.

Im arguing that he should never play. Except maybe to pinch run. Yes he might have a better BA than a few freshman but his ceiling is much lower than theirs. I also get that he plays exceptional D. But 2B is not the hardest position and Foster does a fine job.

The real question is why you don't bunt one of your worst hitters with runners on 1st and second with no outs. That's the real fricking question.

I'm not making any of the same sweeping broad statements that have been made in this thread, but I will say that K-Robs situational hitting this year has been dismal. Alot of his AB's this year have come in situations where his primary job should be to move runners up and he simply does not do that. He has trouble getting himself into a good hitters count and can start eliminating offspeed pitchers and start looking fastball.
As for Pap, yes, we haven't seen much of the advertised power yet, but he does a good job of recognizing breaking balls early and laying off. He makes a lot of contact and will be great in the future, but right now, there's just no spot for him in the regular lineup

The point is you can't judge a true freshman hitter less than halfway through the year when he doesn't play consistant. Krob was a terrible hitter last year and hasn't improved enough to win the starting job he was supposed to win

Pap is a 6'3 195lb switch hitting beast. He was one of the best high school players in the country. Its very hard to find a catcher with his potential and thats why the same can't be said for him.

Plus the guy can't bunt. Remembering the last time he had to bunt he looked at two strikes and bunted the third pitch foul.

Also, they're 2 completely different types of hitters and shouldn't be compared head to head.
My argument would be why not put Byrd in after Fraley's injury with a righty on the mound

Pap is not going to play this year unless Scivicque gets hurt. That's just the way it is. You're gonna see more of Krob.

Do not get me wrong about Pap. I'm a big fan of his. I thought he would have won the job by now after watching fall ball. He looked really far ahead of Sciv in some of those games. But I was wrong about both players. Happily wrong about Sciv!
