I know the Saints OL sucked
It was just a totally different era. No free agency and the info about the draft was nothing. Player evaluations were nothing like now, a few teams like Pitt and Dallas figured out the importance of the draft and how to scout players and that's why they lapped the field. It was nothing like today.
