Have a new Lodge and an old Griswald. The Griswald has a smoother surface and holds seasoning much better.

You may as well go start 2nd base for your church league softball team with a brand new glove with this line of thinking.

It needs to be broke in and seasoned. Sure you can rub a little grease in it and put it in the oven, but wouldn't you rather have one some grandma cooked bacon and eggs in every morning for the last 60 years?
