There was a time when police were looked up to & considered outstanding citizens. As time has gone by from my childhood it is changing drastically. sometime ago you really had to be pushing the law for cops to mess with you, but these days it seems like cops are itching to mess with people. Policing has become a money maker for cities & states and the problems lies in the dependence of the revenue drawn from the police force. They are now living by the "find something wrong" mentality instead of policing actual complaints by citizens. Fricked up times we are living in, but a society will only be policed as much as they want to be policed. Once the people think they have overstepped our boundaries change will happen.

Yeah, I posted this on the poli board yesterday. I don't like that he brought Ferguson into it and his numbers seem sloppy, but whatever.

For most of American history, police enforcement of such regulations was not considered a major source of funding for local government. But today, in many municipalities, as much as 40% of the money governments depend on comes from the kinds of predatory policing that has become a fact of life for the citizens of Ferguson. How did this happen? Some of it, of course, has to do with populist anti-tax movements, beginning with California's Proposition 13. But much of it has happened because in recent decades, local governments have become deeply indebted to large, private financial institutions—many of the same ones that brought of us the crash of 2008. (In Ferguson, for instance, the amount of revenue collected in fines corresponds almost exactly to that shelled out to service municipal debt.) Increasingly, cities find themselves in the business of arresting citizens in order to pay creditors.

No way, no how ever should a police dept have a quota to meet. Citizens pay enough state & local taxes to cover police depts. if a city goes over budget & can't afford some amenities something should be cut NOT upping the amount of tickets written or arrests made unless it stems from actual documented citizen complaints or documented violations of the law.

No drugs in system but crack found in car. Same officer charged with planting evidence before. Nothing to see here move along. Serving and protecting. This type of thing needs to end. What is it going to take?

Chief Vicki Yost looks like a butch Helen Hunt.

How are you allowed to be a cop after something like this? Wtf man.

He was found innocent which just makes me ask the question of how do you prosecute someone for planting evidence? Who are your witnesses?

It seems as if they are hiring too many common street thugs and questionable character guys and giving a badge, gun, and the impunity to wield the powers of our laws...it's a bad mix.
It really gives our good cops a bad wrap. And it lessens the publics trust in those very people we should trust

Why would anyone get banned or get a pm in this thread?
Seems pos cops lied and beat this guy for no good reason.
I hope he gets paid.

After watching the video the perp was obviously asking for it. I Wish cops would give more beat downs like this on the side of the road for minor traffic infractions.

It turns out that the cop in question is seen on dash cam pulling a bag of drugs out of his pocket.
The "good" cops were more than willing to go along with it.

Inexplicably this cop was able to get hired by another police force after being fired from the Detroit PD for planting evidence. He was also sued 4 times and cost the city money. One of those incidents involved him shooting an unarmed man 11 times.
