They are the only team from the conference to qualify for the tournament. ... and now they make the round of 32 with a major upset. Must be an interesting decision for all involved.

because its conference USA...they will always get just one in now that Memphis has left whether UAB is there or not.

I think they're going to defer the decision long enough for UAB to find another conference most likely. They're not going to want to deal with the fallout of dropping a charter member IMO

They would be crazy to kick UAB out.

It makes no sense to kick them out. Keep a decent-sized market school with a good basketball tradition. It also keeps them at 14 teams for non-football sports.
Sun Belt and Southland have uneven numbers of teams for basketball right now. Plus, both have non-football members. So at least UAB will be fine if they are thrown out.

Actually it does.
1. Football is uneven
2. The conference's bylaws clearly states that all school must participate in football.
With the talk of UAB football coming back and Ray Watts backing down a bit, I doubt C-USA makes any decision this year, but if football is not brought back in a reasonable time period their arses are out of there.

Those points do not mean it actually makes sense. They should just call Army about joining for football only. Problem solved.

Rumblings from UAB are that they're going to go down to NAIA in basketball and baseball.

I assume that's what UAT board wants. Would be a shame for them.

Army is not joining the new Sun Belt. If Army is going to join any conference they will join the AAC with Navy.
If UAB is going to truly not have football they need to beg the AAC to take them as a non-football member to even out Navy being a football member.

Army could have joined the AAC already if they wanted to do so. They have different requirements than Navy, making it harder for them to win. CUSA as it is now might be about all they can handle, and they may not even think they can make it there either.

I've heard no such rumblings. From either the UAB or UA side.
They're not going down to NAIA.
