Makes me think that he's either returning soon or getting shut down for the season. No reason to have a statement about "no news."

Why would the GM announce he's returning? That seems like a coaching function. So do injury updates though so him getting shut down seems likely. "Kevin really wants to play, I'm the bad guy here." does seem like a GM's job.
