My buddy who works in the fraud investigation industry said once he was called in by a CFO because his payroll person was suspected of embezzling money from several employees paychecks.

This woman had worked there for many years...the CFO wanted him to find the electronic trail...secure the proof and then have her arrested...my buddy suggested they interview the 4 guys whose paychecks were being robbed first. The CFO didn't see the point....my buddy insisted.

Turns out she was not stealing their money...she was having affairs with all four of them....they secretly authorized her to have some of their funds shuttled to her account...funds that would be used to pay for their many excursions on trips out of town and out of counTry..this was the easiest way for their wives not to become suspicious of cash being withdrawn etc....

The woman was summarily fired and get this...she sued the company and won a large settlement for false termination because it was legally determined that she did not commit fraud...which was the grounds for her firing....crazy.
