what is "trash" about saying you sympathize with those people who share your elevated cultural values, because you know that they may suffer from issues of perceptions by others b/c so many black people support and celebrate an inferior, trashy culture?

i mean the whole "uncle tom" bullshite and skits like these do show these issues in concrete terms

this is why i have major issue with the concept and proliferation of "white privilege" as it pertains to culture. we should be proliferating elevated culture instead of defending and celebrating trash culture, and then trying to shame people who engage in superior culture for that culture. that's the backbone of "white privilege".

if he were running for president he'd have people questioning his patriotism, saying he's not like you and me, making jokes that he can't hold his job because he's black or calling his wife a sasquatch

Well, in fairness that applies to politics regardless of skin color. Look at what liberals said about W and Laura and what conservatives said about Bill and Hillary. Plenty of rhetoric every bit as ugly.

quote:

just going to a store for service is a different experience since you often get slower and ruder service

Not necessarily. It's just that when it happens, you have the nagging doubts in the back of your mind about whether it was racially motivated or if the person just sucks at their job.

quote:

a trivial encounter with police is riskier for him since it can easily be escalated negatively (for example tony dungy getting pulled over and then arrested for a trivial traffic issue because of his race)

Agree with this. There are way too many tPOS types with badges and guns.

quote:

The gap in white perception of black/minority daily experience and the reality of black/minority daily experience is enormous.

Daily experience? No. But if you're black you're at greater risk for running into that kind of BS.

quote:

If you don't see examples of this you don't pay attention to how the educated and law abiding black people are treated in our "culture", that or perhaps you are a white person living in a pretty much whites only environment.

Or you live in an area where people treat each other with respect.

Explain to me if you are in a restaurant and the only thing you know about them are that you and they are at the same class level, you would think they are different than you that it isn't racism?

You think they are lesser and need to be congratulated?

That is a pure trash move.

Exactly what was a point of wanting to call out another family based on colour?

what? the point of his post, as i read it, was that they WEREN'T different and were on the same class level

i'm not saying i agree with his phrasing, but what you just typed is not what he was saying

quote:

You think they are lesser and need to be congratulated?

who congratulates their lessers?

...other than race pimps

If they weren't different they would not have been noticed. How many other people did he want to approach?

i don't think the entire restaurant has to deal with the very issues you're trying to promote in this very thread (since i've been posting!)

it wasn't the best example, but his point was sincere and legitimate

bad culture is such an epidemic with blacks in america, and they create a fake authenticity in "being black" based in this culture, that it really makes me feel bad for black americans who engage in superior culture. they get ridiculed by black people, just like in the clip i posted

you're right

they are different

their own race holds them to an unfair standard that is sad to think about

What is the "situation"?

It's gotten significantly worse in the past 5-6 years.

Racially divisive rhetoric from political leaders and anyone with an audience. People are so much more open about it.

But they don't think that. TIGRLEE is white, not black.

I don't understand the people that get butt hurt over white privilege. It's going to be like that for many years to come. Black people need to just accept that this is the world they were born into.

You may not be angry at the white man, but just like Strong Safety, you sure are mad as frick that you're black.

Hey look, we all have to live with the hand we were dealt. You were dealt the black man card, it's time to just embrace it and quit being so bitter.
