We’re still waiting on the specific details of some of the New Orleans Saints’ newest contracts, so it’s impossible to specify exactly where they stand against the salary cap. By my math, they’re about $6 million over the cap after their latest flurry of moves. But new linebacker Dannell Ellerbe was reportedly willing to restructure his contract – which I assume will include a significant drop in his 2015 salary and cap hit of $8.45 million. Even so, the Saints will likely have to find a couple more ways to trim some cap space, whether that includes more contract restructures or player cuts. So stay tuned. I believe guard Jahri Evans’ job security is a bit safer after the team traded away fellow guard Ben Grubbs, but I don’t know that for sure. It’s also possible the team will try to work out a pay cut with Evans.

Yeah if that doesn't include Ellerbee's cut already we'll be fine. Not to mention I'm sure Evans will get some trimming.

Exactly. After those two moves, we will surely be under the cap.

We need 2-3 Mil in space to sign our rookies as well.

With all our draft picks, we may need more than that!

Redid this post. We are effectively at $4m - Ellerbe and Spiller. We may need to make another move to fit them in but we definitely have to make a move to fit the draft picks and for when we have to carry the top 53 + the PS (and anyone on IR).
Evans is far from safe. After him all the other moves save peanuts unless we shop Jordan (insane), extend Jordan (a year too soon), or touch Brees' deal (which we said we weren't looking to do).

Becoming very disappointed in Triplett lately. He seems to post for clicks. Nothing in that article is new info. Just a bunch of "I don't know."

I was just hating on Triplett last night. Like he has something against us this season and now he has no real info with the cap situation. Still the best writer for the saints though.

Edited my prior post. They had some moves and math to take further into account.
We are likely done adding FAs unless we make one of the big moves I mentioned. Evans cap is needed just for picks and the regular season roster(when we go to 53 + PS + IR).

Where's that tigerbait fool to tell everyone how the Saints have plenty of room to sign more people?

I'm starting to like Nick Underhill a lot better than Triplett.

From starting $20m over most people wonder how we resigned Ingram, much less signed Spiller and Browner and traded for Unger and Ellerbe (both moves that cost us cap space). And we resigned about 4-5 other guys.
So we did have plenty of room and acquired 4 new players (3 starters and 1 part time starter). And we only lost 5 players (3 starters and 2 part time starters). So we're down one part time starter.
Oh and we're up a first, third, and fifth rounder while only being down a fourth rounder.
What's that thing Charlie use to say?

I know all of that, but this fool was just saying we had all kind of room. Figured we'd be over the cap and have to make some changes, plus draft coming up etc.

What about bush?
Could see him being moved

We did have all kinds of room. We cleared over $20+m to get under and made room for Ingram ($2m), Spiller(assumed to be between $2-3m), Browner($2.4m), Unger($4.5m), and Ellerbe(still waiting on numbers but likely at least $2-3m) plus resigned a few other guys.
That's anywhere between $13-15m at least plus the money money the other guys which brings the total to around $20m.
So we cleared over $40m in space and only lost 5 guys. That's insane. People are severely underestimating the job we did here. Plus we gained two very good draft picks(plus another) while only losing one mid rounder.

Word was they were shopping Bush but there has been a lot of misinformation out there (and a lot of truth) so who knows. We clear $2m and we have insane safety depth so it makes sense to lose him, especially in a trade.
Evans has to take a pay cut or get cut or traded at some point to make room for draft picks and our regular season roster cap adjustments.

Makes sense that the "Grubbs didn't take a pay cut" story got leaked after we shipped him off. Maybe getting Jahri to think about it harder.

'Far from safe" is like saying the Hindenburg had an unblemished safety record.
Evans is really the only player left that can yield any measurable savings. Even if he's traded or cut, there is still a shortfall.
