Saw "Gone Girl" for the first time. I don't understand the praise.

What utter rubbish.
I liked it until.... well, until the ENORMOUS plot holes started piling up.
Should I list them?

I sort of agree. It was good but from all the praise I heard going into it, I was expecting to see one of the greatest movies I had ever seen.

In particular, Mrs. Dunne's resolution of her predicament was absurd given the other aspects of her plan.

I agree her story explaining her "abduction" lacked any semblance of credibility which definitely made the ending disappointing. Overall I still enjoyed the movie. Many movies pretty much require you to check your brain at the door to enjoy them. To some extent it's due to the nature of the beast: a 2 hour production that adequately develops characters, tells a story and has a satisfying conclusion. You might want to check out this link: LINK The guy does a pretty objective job of reviewing the plot holes.

i was very disapointed in the movie. Ending sucked

Why not just watch the damn movie and be entertained and just go with the story instead of trying to make it plausible and/or realistic?

Movie sucked but the book was good.

Actually he doesn't. Guy is wrong about all kinds of details.

Do you only start threads to say how overrated a movie is?

Even if the story made no sense, (I.E. Pulp Fiction) It doesn't mean that it's not a good movie or even a great one. I've posted my feelings on this movie before in great detail, but today I will just sum up what I think. Gone Girl is a stretch of the imagination. It's a movie that was made with the intention to tell an unbelievable story. The tone of the movie takes so many turns throughout that it's hard to depict what kind of movie it is. Is it a murder mystery, is it a black comedy, is it a horror movie? The development of Rosamund Pike's character is shown in a way that keeps us guessing how far she will really go, and by the end we see that she will go as far as it takes. IMO, that's what the movie is about and that's what it succeeds at. Whether or not you think the story is close to reality is really a non factor in the eyes of it's creators. That was not their intention.
The movie brought something new to the table. Something original. If you were looking for a real life accurate crime drama, you should look elsewhere.

Crazy how astute the detective woman was and then to not DESTROY that bullshite story when she came home. It borders on insulting the audience

Rex, how can someone so close to death be so angry about everything?

So Gone Girl sucks, Boyhood sucks, Birdman was s disappointment, Orphan Black has a stupid premise, Edge of Tomorrow sucks because its insulting to Groundhogs Day, and the movie Titus is you favorite Shakespearian movie adaptation...maybe your taste in Movie/TV sucks and shouldn't be taken very seriously. Just sayin.

I think you are over reaching like crazy I think this movie is exactly what it looks like. A "psychological thriller" that intends to rely on some type of plausibility for its effect. I don't see it attempting to be absurd or ironic. That shite would never happen IRL. Her bullshite story would get dissected and DESTROYED by detectives and the media

Movies have to be good in order for me to proclaim them good. Groundhog Day was VERY good.

This was the problem I had with Gone Girl. But I still enjoyed immensely - and I have never hated a character more than Amy Dunne .
