Uber's insurance covers from the time a ride is accepted by the driver until the time the driver drops the person off. It does not cover anytime the driver is waiting to accept a fare.
From what they told me, it's a million plus policy. While each driver is required to have normal insurance coverage, anything that your personal insurance won't cover, Uber will.
I stopped driving often for them for this specific reason. I didn't want to go through the hassle of filing a claim with both parties if I got in a wreck. Also, I didn't want my personal insurance to skyrocket or be canceled later on because of a rideshare use.
Honestly, when they first came to BR, the money was good with the promotional payments they would give drivers. Now it is not really worth my time and sanity to drive across town to pick someone up for a measly $8.

which is nothing when they find out you are working for Uber if you get into an accident and you have someone in the car with you....
