Kansas had the best player in the country that season, so it's not '88. Great run, but Danny Manning wasn't human in that tournament. You always have a chance with the best player.
My choice is North Carolina State in '83. That Houston team was absolutely loaded.
Villanova had also played Georgetown twice that season and the Big East was like SEC football in the 1980's - loaded and deep with talent. I imagine Nova would have had a better record if it played in a different conference that year.
