Been told to sleep in a chair, slip on shoes. Any recs on pants you can pull up and not button? Any other tips on how to get by without use of dominant hand?
to amputees. Been practicing shaving with my left hand.

I hope you have been practicing wiping with your left hand.

Let me know how bad it is cause I may eventually have to do it too

I had it done last year & the only thing I couldn't do was put my belt on (there was 1 belt loop that I couldn't get to). I practiced everything (except putting on socks which I figured out later) left-handed for about a week and was good to go.
You need to get some of that sticky "Saran wrap" for showers the first few days until they take the surgical bandages off. Your wife will have to put it on you but it makes things A LOT easier.
Take your time dressing and everything will be fine. Polo shirts are a pain in the arse but you'll figure it out.
You cannot prepare for sleeping in a sling for 5 weeks: it sucks so DWI.
Rehab is 6 months min.

No fapping. It's not all in the wrist.

My wife had a similar surgery in November.
Sweat pants are your friend. For the first month or so it was hard for her to sleep period, but sleeping in our recliner seemed to help the most.

According to a friend who had it, therapy post surgery is hard. Be ready to work to get back to full strength.

Make sure anesthesia does an interscalene block preop to control the early post op pain.

PT is the worst pain ever ever felt in my life. It fricking sucks. So be prepared.
I've been having some pains in mine again here lately. Not crazy, but enough to take 800mg Ibuprofren to calm it down .

See its shite like this that makes me not want to deal with my shoulder. Ive been to the DR, done 6 weeks of PT and even ha a Cortisone shot. So far, it hasn't gone away completely which means something is probably wrong, but the DR said if you can o 95% of what you typically do, dont fix it because its a giant pain in the arse. Doesnt help that my wife is having our second child in August.

Buy button up shirts, you wont be able to raise your arm over your head to put on a pull over.

Rehab can be brutal at times. You don't want to end up with Frozen Shoulder. Going to the john is no fun.

Sure you can (not being a dick here); put the bad arm in first. You're right that button up shirts are easier though.
Yes it was a total PIA but think long term.

Follow your docs orders and recs. everyone is different and every surgery is different. You are going to be sore as a sum bitch, but deal with it. There are constants with each surgery within the same scope, so you can get tips from others. But, mainly follow the docs instructions. Meds don't take away all the pain and rehab sucks. Follow your med orders and remember they are take as needed, not take b/c I have them.
FWIW I was a nurse in an ortho group for 5 years.... Only been out about 1.5yrs. Good luck, it sucks having your arm in that shoulder
Immobilizer with the big arse pillow.

The rehab sucks, it took my shoulder a year before it was back to normal. Good luck is all I can say.

plus the interscalene block as someone mentioned, my rehab wasn't as bad as some people experience, nor was the first few days post-op, but I did exactly what the doc told me to do, the cold water pump is an awesome thing, I would not buy the little pulley thing that goes over a door, golf club exercise was OK, spent first 2, maybe three nights on the sofa, after that, got back in bed, ultimately you'll be glad you had the surgery and probably wished you'd done it sooner, good luck

You know me, I already fit in at wal mart.
I'm trying to find some pants that I can work in and don't have to button. Are you going to come visit me and bring me treats?

Do what your doctor says, not what a buch of armchair doctors tell you.

Trying to avoid this surgery. Went bowling with my granddaughters kids the other day and thought my right arm was gonna fall off.
