Lots of diets meet this. Atkins being a prime example. In the long tern, "diets" don't work period.

As many have said, a wholesale lifestyle change is the only thing that works.

Right. And some people make wholesale lifestyle changes to stay on "diets"

Over the last several years I've made it a point to eat grain products sparingly and it's made a huge difference

If you're going to make a real lifestyle change the composition of your calories is every bit as important as the quantity
