Hell, the Army had to completely overhaul physical training at Basic Training because of the level of fitness of the average recruit and the fact that so many of them were getting hurt in basic. Kids were showing up having really never done anything physical in their lives.

This is a pretty well examined area. Sure, I wouldn't want to have my HS football team play a comparable team today. But, if you grabbed 30 average joes from my HS, I'd absolutely put em up against the average joes from that school today.
