Doesn't SF have rent control? How are prices ballooning upward if there was a cap on pricing?

Not all are rent controlled.

My fiancée's friend was able to sneak herself into a rent controlled apartment; taking the place of a girl she knows. It was still pretty high but we were then told the market rate.

Pretty insane

Only older buildings are covered. When a rent controlled apartment opens up, it's gone literally in minutes.

Rent control causes prices to increase on the whole. Simple economics.

What they have is artificial scarcity of affordable housing due to restrictive NIMBY type of zoning regs.
