That would be my guess as well. I had the reverse experience in that when I called on New Year's Day to get a reservation at a local place (Proof on Main) they were booked but they had a reservation open on Open Table. Staff called the day before to confirm and it worked out great.

This too.
I imagine it is no different than using Priceline for hotels in the sense that they only allot a certain # to those sites to make sure they don't overbook.

They use open table specifically to get people booking the times they are not busy, since they know they are going to be full during their busy times anyways, which is why they almost always only show shite times on open table.
