It's called water ski racing, the pros routinely do 100+ mph. The skis they use are so thick that they basically glide on top of the water. When they make a turn or 'cut' at that speed they can glide for 3-400 yards. Its pretty unreal watching someone travel that far on skis after letting go of the handle.

This is one of the most famous crashes, from back in '83 (SFW). The staff at Bennett's still talk about the size of this guys balls:

Holy crap, Bennett's is still open? I used to ski there in the late '80s. Thought I was going to kill myself on that jump ramp! Almost got beat up by some bull dyke jumper for using her tape.
