It frustrates me that Miles did not stay with Harris the rest of the season, or give him another opportunity.
JT Barrett of Ohio St had a terrible game against a pathetic VT team at home as a RS Fr, he threw 3 INTs and they lost.. at home.. but he was allowed to continue on the season and put up heisman-like numbers until his ultimate injury... and they had a guy like Cordelle Jones behind him they could have went to.
Harris had one bad first start on the road against a top ranked opponent as a True Freshman and he never once saw the field again. Not once.. in a 5 game losing season. Even though the other QB didn't even do anything in the same game versus the same opponent and was below mediocre all season long.
Then Miles goes on to say, "Jennings was never benched"
Sumlin of a&m has a QB that starts the season looking like a heisman.. but then suspends him for his off the field behavior.. he then inserts his talented freshman who actually has a poor first start at home and nearly loses to an inferior team.. but what does he do? He sticks by him, because he has now made the decision to stand by him.. he goes as far as to actually say, "Kyle Allen is OUR guy" and this was once Kenny Hill was off his suspension. He made a decision at that point of the season to make the change and stick behind it. I would love for Miles to publicly get behind the more promising QB and stand behind him. To where even if he has a bad game, he will be in position to bounce back. Allow him to do his thing on the field and make plays. Those two programs stood behind their younger talented guys when all things seemed equal. I would prefer Miles to have given Harris another opportunity.. Especially against a team like a&m who has a super soft D and we had already dropped 4 games in the season. That would have been an opportunity to build something.. or even in the bowl game against a ND D that only had like 3 starters playing on D..
And this is all the way the coach is publicly saying that you will get playing time and opportunity.. You never once see the field. How can there ever be trust and confidence in any of these quarterbacks. That has to be difficult. We need better confidence and trust here.
I just want Miles to get the right guy ready and name him the guy ASAP.
