I'm sure detectives have questioned his former wife but we do now there is no record of any domestic abuse:

Court records also indicate the north shore physician had divorced his previous wife in 2006 and divorce records from that case show no indication of domestic abuse. The petition for divorce between Breen and his first wife, Diana Flynn Breen, was filed in April 4, 2006.

I didn't know him them, but a "story" I heard yesterday was that his first wife left him because he was cheating on her with the wife that shot him. No clue if it's true, but infidelity could be a possibility in both scenarios.
