How does he have a case? On Jan 1, he flew to College Station on an aTm chartered planed with Sumlin and an Associate AD. He also made comments about being a part of the staff.
“I’m excited to play with a great offense, and certainly looking forward to helping the defense get better,” Chavis told the Chronicle from the tarmac of Easterwood Airport. “We get that situation done, and certainly you’re looking at a time, in my mind and in my vision, we will compete for championships.”
A&M coach Kevin Sumlin lured Chavis, long considered one of the nation’s top defensive coordinators, from LSU this week, although A&M has yet to officially announce his hire. Chavis, 58, didn’t wait to arrive in Aggieland to get to work, either.
Flying with his wife, Diane, Sumlin and A&M associate athletic director Justin Moore, Chavis, flew in from Knoxville, Tenn., on Thursday morning.
“We had an opportunity to visit on the plane coming in,” Chavis said of him and Sumlin strategizing. “We’re already getting things started.”
