I saw him a few years ago with wilco and beck. It was awful, we left after a half hour. While his band may be tight, the song arrangements were boring as hell.

Here's my take (and it's the same with Willie):

If you've never seen him, and you want to say you've seen him before he dies.. then yes. By all means.

If you're wanting to go see him to see an awesome show, then hell no.

I saw Townes Van Zandt a few months before his death. I wasn't even really a fan then. He was just playing a show that had some other acts on the billing I wanted to see. Due to his health conditions at the time, he was awful. My friends and I talked after the show about how awful he was.

All that being said, years later I can say, "Yeah. I saw Townes Van Zandt in concert." And that's awesome.
