The teams responded rationally, and competitively, to the rules that were given to them. The referee called halt when the players started scoring for their opponents, but that's just when the game was getting interesting. It could have become a hard-fought game if he had let each team try to score in the other team's basket. The first string would have come back in for each team and the girls would have tried to play their best, just going for the opposite basket. It was probably getting too confusing for the ref.
