That's a little different.
If you are in playoff contention, intentionally losing in the NBA and NFL will not help your postseason seeding.
The NBA and NFL are businesses that are trying to generate as much revenue as possible. It the super bowl winners get the first pick in next years draft the NFL business model starts to fail.
I don't like it but I don't really see a way around it.

The way around it is for all of these supposed professionals to have the same rock-hard, unquestionable characters as some of the self-appointed heroes in this thread and PLAY HARD AND TO WIN ON EVERY SINGLE PLAY.
