Hog hunting with dogs?

Anyone on here ever do it?
It's the only type of hunting I enjoy and do regularly, but I never really see anyone on here talking about it. Seems like everyone on here just likes to shoot hogs with guns
So for those who take their dogs out and leave all guns at home, how do you do it?
Do y'all drive around or actually run with the dogs the whole time?
Cur dogs only?
Tracking collars & cut vests?
Or just you and man's best friend with no technology?

Done it several times.
Tracking collars and cut vests.
Cur dogs and catch dogs.
Ride on side by sides till the curs bay one. Then chase the catch dogs and kill piggy with a knife.
Primal, intense and fun.
Nothing like seeing those big catch dogs work.

What kind of catch dogs do y'all use?
In the past, we'd have a well trained American bulldog. But recently, all of my friend's trail dogs are so good, that's all we need. They trail, bay, & catch. Cur dogs are amazing.
Oh, and I usually don't cut a pig right there on the spot. We tie them up and take them out alive (illegal, I know). Only time I use a knife to cut a hog is to castrate it.

Any reason for not carrying at least a pistol to kill the hog with?
I am not very familiar with hog hunting.

Cause I don't kill every hog I catch (blasphemy, I know)

Ok. So you just hunt them and run the dogs for the sport of it.
Do the dogs ever chase something they aren't suppose to instead of a hog?
I guess no ooncerns for bears or sasquatches then.

if you are relocating them then you are part of the problem

American Bulldogs.
Amazing beasts. Beautiful to see them work. Most of the curs could probably catch but it's risky getting them cut or killed.

A decent sized boar (200+lbs & up) with big cutters can fetch decent money alive and well.

I use to do it more regularly. The guy who had the dogs has downsized. I have no need for them really. I haven't had a population worth hunting with dogs in 5-6 years. He had pit mixes & Bulldogs that people have away. A good trained dog won't go after anything besides a hog because that's all they know to hunt. When they get into the small pigs they'll break the necks & keep hunting looking for other hogs. It's actually quite interesting to watch them work. You get a bunch of untrained dogs & they will start running deer. I let a guy (I knew he had shitty dogs) run his dogs 1 time and they started running does through the swamp. I was nice about it but he has never hunted again.

We used to do it all the time at our place, it was a kick in the arse. Had them running alongside the truck until you heard them bay one, then you let go the pitbull to grab ahold of them. Someone went in and grabbed the back legs and someone else would stick a knife behind their shoulder.
Unfortunately one of the few times my pops went out with us one of the dogs pushed a nice buck across the road and was hot on his trail. He put an end to it after that.

So most of you who stick the pig on the spot do so while legging the pig? Y'all don't even bother with typing it up? Y'all flip it and stick it and just let it bleed out while your knee is on its neck holding it down?

Pretty much sums it up. We run Blue Lacy dogs to trail and bay, and then Let the Dogo's catch. Good thing about the Dogo is they can also run a good distance without being to winded by the time to catch comes.

Buddy of mine has dogos. Pretty badass dogs. They broke into a hog trap once and two dogs ripped a medium sized pig in half.

They are good at what they do, and pretty much fearless. Great family dogs also. Kinda remind me of a boxer when it comes to family.

Love it. It's a different kind of adrenaline rush then any other kind of hunting. You run in a thicket when you hear a bay not knowing if it'll be a 70 pound sow or a 300 pound boar! Then you go grab those big, nasty, bastards only trusting the pitbulls to hold them and keep you from getting cut.

We use dogs with some sort of hound in them so they'll run better where we are the hogs will cover some ground. It's usually catahoulas mixed with plot or walker as bay dogs, no vest for them. They have tracking collars on and we usually stay in the ranger with the bulldogs, but try and stay semi close. The 2 pits both have vest on.

We'll castrate em too. As far as using curs to catch, we try to keep bay dogs that won't try and catch because they'll be more likely to get cut or killed and on a big 300 pound hog I don't trust them to hold the big down like a pit.
