The long jump is actually an amazingly technical event and the difference between good and elite jumpers is often form and economy of motion. That said, if football doesn't work out he need to find a track with pit asap.

FYI, the LSU Track & Field record is 3.59m (11'9") set by six-time NCAA champion Walter Davis in 2001.

I was thinking that too, but it's more a target than anything. No way anyone is ever going to jump 15' in a broad jump.
