At the risk of sounding like a total idiot... Can someone explain to me the big difference in what day a pitcher starts?
People are saying Poche is a better Saturday starter... What difference does it make, other than facing a different pitcher from the other team??? I don't get what qualities distinguish which day a pitcher should throw...

Everybody wants to win that Friday game and get off to a solid start. With most teams throwing their best guy on Fridays, you usually don't want to have a huge mismatch with your guy if you can help it. Saturday and Sunday then slowly decrease in importance because most teams don't have more than one really good starter.

You want your best pitcher to start on Friday's to go u against the other team's best pitcher.

Other than the reasons discussed (best pitchers earlier in the series), there is some sentiment for jumping between pitching styles to throw off the hitters' timing. For example, if you have two flamethrowers and one junkballer, you might throw the junkballer on Saturday.

In this case, though, I think Manieri just wanted to see the guys pitch on different days.

Usually you face the other team's ace on Friday night. By Sunday you're looking at their number three guy. Its about matchups.
