I finally made my maiden voyage to Bourree yesterday against the advice of the FDB, but couldn't resist because I am a wing connoisseur. Also, because everything Boucherie and Que Crawl cooks is always so damn good.
I can pretty much confirm what's already been said, with a few updates. I ordered the Barbara's Downfall daiquiri, the spicy buffalo wings and the kimchi wings.
The daiquiri texture was great due to the bartender using a Vitamix, but that's where the excitement ends. The drink was bland and for what equates to a medium daiq at all drive-thru spots, not that I drink them on the reg, $10 was fairly pricy to walk away with zero buzz.
As for the wings, they were good size for being quality chicken. I could tell the quality since I usually walk away from an order of wings feeling like garbage (usually worth it), but not the case here with Springer Mtn poultry. You do pay for it at $7-8 for 6 wings.
The "spicy" buffalo wings were smoked well, but I would have liked them spicier and fried a bit crispier. There is an option on the menu to up the heat, which would probably have been the way to go. Also could have used a piece of celery or two to dip the rest of the ranch/bleu combo they give you.
The kimchi wings tasted great and were a nice twist (besides being less crispy than I like). This was the best item of the meal and will probably be what has people going back.
All in all it was OK. A previous poster said if you are going to have 2 items on the menu, do them very well. I have to agree they need to step it up.
I walked out of there down $27.50 plus tip with zero buzz and not full, but not hungry either. The only way I would go back is if someone lobbies me hard to go back with them and I am already in the area...even then I may defer and just walk around the corner to Boucherie.
