You had four of the greatest acting performances of all-time in one year: Pacino in GF Part II, Nicholson in Chinatown, Hoffman in Lenny and Rowlands in Woman Under the Influence. If you look at the directors, you see Coppola still making great films, Scorsese coming into his own, Cassavetes, Tarkovsky and Fassbender at the peak of their powers plus a number of the best actors and actresses of this generation were born in 1974 such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Amy Adams and Joaquin Phoenix. 1974 really was a truly blessed year for cinema.
