I want to get a federal grant to the various states W&F to study the impact of global warming on the deer seasons in the Southern Part of La Ms Bama. Does anyone on here know if anything like this is being done. We are missing the rut every year now even with the extended season. They started chasing at our camp Thursday. Season closed Monday. To do this study you would obviously need a number of late after season bucks taken for study. I am glad to help with this part.

Where's your camp?

They were chasing in Lowndes County starting @ the 20th of January. I know we're in the northern part of the South zone so that has a bearing on the time of the rut. The extended season was pretty good for us, adding another week I do not think would've made much of a difference.

If the rut had anything to do with warm/ cool temps you might be on to something. Hell, considering some of the dumb as studies I've seen you still might have a shot.

I've read that cold or hot means nothing, and the amount of sunlight in the day everything.
Deer around our camp rut about one or two weeks before Christmas every year, despite LDWF saying it's really in mid to late January for us.

Although, we did notice some small "secondary rut" action this year in January that I've never noticed previously.
