first, higher ed wont be "destroyed". They won't get the full amount of cuts requested. They might get half of that. Regardless, higher ed will survive.
second, the idea that the smart students will go elsewhere is bullshite and always has been. Those who can go out of state will, regardless of higher ed's budget. The rest- smart or stupid- will go where they can afford to. As for making La. their home post graduation- that will depend on if they can find employment or not in the state.
The belief that a university will make people want to stay here or come here is propaganda put out by higher ed to keep/increase their funding. Quit drinking the koolaid.

it wont be destroyed but it will be hurt. One part is the stupid idea that all colleges should have cuts instead of making the useless ones go away. Second inside the college not many of the balls to tell useless majors they are gone.
If you harm a strong program with cuts, then you possibly lose ground to out of state colleges that have a program just as good. Some of the smart students will stay but others will go and they might not return.
A business will certainly take into account education in deciding where to open offices. If i know i can get home grown talent that is a major plus. Also knowing that the state you are in has good programs can help bring in better employees.
I doubt the state cuts 300 million, but it is stupid to only cut higher ed. LA has far too many stupid untouchables than it should. Jindal just has zero fricking back bone to fix the real problems.
