I've often wondered the same thing. My guess would be, by rule they are only allowed to meet with players for an set amount of time (30 or a full minute) during breaks in the action. Thus during the 3 or 4 minute media time outs they can only talk with the players for a small portion of the time out. So they discuss with the coaches before they talk with the players. Just a thought, I'm probably way off
