You know why Nique was awesome? And why the NBA was so much better back then? This is why:

quote:

If you expect that Wilkins would carry a bit of bitterness toward Bird and the Celtics after all these years, you don’t know ’Nique. He carries those moments, even the bad ones, as a badge of honor.

“Let me tell you something: I wouldn’t trade that for nothing in the world,” Wilkins said. “You know why? Because those guys like Larry and Doc (Julius Erving) and Bernard (King), they made you a better player.

“You know, if you didn’t have the heart, you got destroyed.”

A lot of the BS drama we hear about today either 1) Didn't exist or 2) it wasn't broadcast through social media and thus the product wasn't tainted by it. Athletes today largely suck.

I think the product on the floor is more polished and athletes are better in the present, and perhaps it's just nostalgia, but I'd take the old NBA any day.

I dislike all pro sports for the most part, but I will still watch a Celtics game occasionally just because how much of a Bird fan I was when the NBA was fun too watch.
