My son will be 13 next year and I'm trying to plan a trip to the Olympic Peninsula. After looking at so many reviews, one thing for certain is hiking to Hurricane Hill.

This will be a mom and son trip. I want a bonding trip before he hits the nothing to do with me stage. I've talked to him about the trip, and he is excited. (He knows its not definite and that many factors will determine if it can be done.)

Together we have been doing research and he wants to do the Hurricane Hill hike, trails through the HOH Rainforest, LaPush Beach, and maybe if possible a whale sightseeing tour.

Right now I'm thinking 8 solid days on the Olympic Peninsula. Also I'm thinking of base camp (not literally, but just as an idea) being in Forks, Wa. It seems like a central point for everything. I'm also open to maybe some tent camping for a night or two in a campground. Also maybe a overnight guided tour into the back country.

If anyone has any ideas or tips, I would greatly appreciate it.

Paging Roger and Don

Those are the locals in that area and can provide a wealth of info.

Also I need to keep things on budget, and I was thinking of doing gear rental, for the day packs, the hydration packs, walking sticks, and etc, since we will be flying, and luggage space is limited.

Also I've talked to my son about rafting trips and even kayaking trips. Even though I'm on a budget being a single mom, my son and I are comfortable sleeping in a tent in a campground for a couple of nights or so. Him and I both are really excited about the adventure and we are excited to see what mother nature has in store for us.
