I think that players should be criticized for slacking; however, his comparison is dumb. I'm sure kids are still being coached to hustle at the little league or whatever level he is talking about. Unless he is observing the little league fields around the country, I can only assume he is witnessing the lack of hustle at the MLB level, which is fundamentally different. Unless he can objectively measure compare the effort and discipline at the professional level across time, then he's just playing the "good old days" card. In fact, I would imagine the nutrition and training off the field is far more intensive today than on the past. That work takes true discipline.
