If you can handle rough situations, become a cop. Seriously. A lot of cops make six figures. Your degree may give you an upper leg once you get in, if you don't get rejected for having too high of an IQ.
Yeah, your ecology job with the state may be cut, but state troopers just got a 20% pay increase. You'll earn 3.33% of your salary in retirement benefits every year you work so if you get in at 25 you can retire at 48 with a pretty decent guaranteed life benefit. After that you'll have time to pursue a job in your desired field and make that check on top of the retirement money.
