I honestly believe Odo can do the two things we're asking Darcy to do better than he can. I don't really care if Malone gets 3 points and 1 assist a game. We have 4 other guys on the court that can rack up those stats. We need him to defend and rebound and I really don't think Odo is much worse of a defender than Darcy and I'm damn sure he's a better rebounder.

I am pleased to see some rationale posters in here.

The play was very sloppy, the loss very disappointing. However, it did not warrant the "tournament killer" or "pack it in" reactions I saw on here immediately after the game. This team can still get better and end up competitive by tournament time.

Didn't Odo lead D2 in rebounding before going to North Texas? I'd absolutely rather Odo in than Malone.

All of this is opinion.

I think Darcy is a much better defender on larger opponents, while Odo does a better job with quicker guys.

I think Darcy allows offense to work smoother than Odo, but Odo does a better job rebounding.

I think Darcy has much more upside and can run the court very well for a 7 footer. He needs to work on some things for sure, but I think overall defensively he is a much better choice than Odo. I think offensively he is a much better choice. Rebounding is probably better for Odo, but I think Darcy does so many other things well and knowing that we allow perimeter guys to crash the boards makes it okay for Darcy to play.

Mickey had 20 rebounds against Miss St, in large part to Malone being able to contain his guy and allow Mickey to one on one go after rebounds, where he will win a lot of them. I think their is a direct coorelation to Mickey's rebound totals and Malone's playing time. I think he blocks his guy out, but does not attack the basketball to get rebounds.

They both have plus and minuses. For what it's worth, I thought that we developed a very nice second unit with both of them in at the same time last year before conference play started. For some reason we went away from it.

That has been my biggest criticism of Jones, as he doesn't use his bench well. So being that "next guy" after TQ and Patterson is going to be rough. I think it is because he isn't used to the talent difference between his stars and the rest of the team. He is making improvements, but I don't think you will see him fully adjust until next year. Too late for Odo unfortunately.

I think one of the announcers says he ranks 3rd from the bottom of all D-1 teams in using his bench. That is pretty telling.

BTW, here are the latest minutes per game in SEC play. Even with Martin's foul trouble he only fell to 3rd, and a full minute more than anyone not on his team:

1 37.5 Keith Hornsby Jr 6-4 210 8 LSU
2 37.0 Jordan Mickey So 6-8 235 8 LSU
3 36.875 Jarell Martin So 6-10 236 8 LSU

4 35.875 Keith Shamburger Sr 5-11 170 8 Missouri
5 35.375 Levi Randolph Sr 6-5 208 8 Alabama
6 34.75 Josh Richardson Sr 6-6 200 8 Tennessee
7 34.25 Danuel House Jr 6-7 195 8 Texas A&M
8 33.875 Tim Quarterman So 6-6 187 8 LSU
9 33.75 Alex Caruso Jr 6-5 183 8 Texas A&M
9 33.75 Riley LaChance Fr 6-2 194 8 Vanderbilt
